Dear Presenters of Mubasher Shehzad Show August 11 was the National Day for the Minorities. Let us remind ourselves Jinnah - Quaid -e-Azam's words addressed to the constituent assembly 3 days before Independence: “You are free; you are free to go to your temples, you are free to go to your mosques or to any other place of worship in this State of Pakistan. You may belong to any religion or caste or creed — that has nothing to do with the business of the State... We are starting with this fundamental principle that we are all citizens and equal citizens of one State... I think we should keep that in front of us as our ideal and you will find that in due course Hindus would cease to be Hindus and Muslims would cease to be Muslims, not in the religious sense, because that is the personal faith of each individual, but in the political sense as citizens of the State.” I also take issue with the statement that one of the presenters keeps saying in this programme that Pakistan was made in the name of Allah and Pakistan ka Matlab kiya laillahah elallha. This slogan was adopted much later by certain religious groups and factions of political parties of Pakistan. Pakistan was to be made as per the Lahore Resolution/Pakistan Resolution, 1940. "That adequate, effective and mandatory safeguards should be specifically provided in the constitution for minorities in these units and in the regions for the protection of their religious, cultural, economic, political, administrative and other rights and interests in consultation with them and in other parts of India where the Muslims are in a minority adequate, effective and mandatory safeguards shall be specifically provided in the constitution for them and other minorities for the protection of their religious, cultural, economic, political, administrative and other rights and interests in consultation with them." Also stop saying "Pakistan cannot break". It sounds such a self delusional farce as Pakistan is broken since when it was formed in 1947. We have lost East Pakistan for precisely this reason that we ignore the ground realities and do not give our provinces apart from Punjab their rights and also not to the ethnic minorities as per the constitution. Unless we appreciate the grievances of the Baloch, Shia, Christian and other fellow Pakistani's we are on the way to self destruct and it will not require Yahood or Hindus whom people often like to blame for all our ills. Wishing you all a very happy Independence day! Kind regards Alina Mirza
